My first five years in Hong Kong

I wish i had the right perfect words to express all the joy and the gratitude for spending now five years of my life in this wonderful place completely drenched into Chinese culture and understanding. When i decided to come here I dont really rememeber, everything always happen very fast sometimes and plays alot with my inside enamourament for ventursome challenges as well as desire to grow thru different experiences. I got what i deserved: a special environment where introspection is the only way out for a westerner.  There are plenty of stories to tell, five years is not a short span of time and actually i feel it like double or even much more. At the same time it passed so fast.

When i arrived HK one of the first thing to impress me were the forever glittering lights of the city, the supertall buildings and the neverending flow of people walking in every place in every direction. I really abandoned myself to this feeling of “being exploring a new reality, a different dimension with multi layers”; it was  a soft abandonment, as soft as the precious advices and guidelines of my native soulmate. I switched on a decoding mode which would enable me understanding what the local language didnt leave to penetrate. I knew i had  a diverse background and i know my history too. But the most important thing i came to realize is that without them, things would have been totally complicated and i could not explore the immense joy at the present.

The colors of this place are shockingly stunning and full of life, my eyes will never be tired to observe the beauty of its mountains, the green of the farms, the pink and yellow of the my age brickstone buildings, the multicolored hundreds of street market with all their abundant harmonious display. I will always treasure one thing here, which is the real common ground with my original country: history. And all which is connected to her (the history) : the wisdom, the spirituality, the good teachings, the fundamentals, the conduct, the family. These are the pearls, i realize, we people should take care of on a daily base, infact they are the keys for a balanced environment.

Behind the supermodern aspect of the city, the preservation and the nourishment of something more vital. This is my first attraction in Hong Kong and it makes me feel very proud to live here and it makes me wish to live seventy years more here. I cant imagine any other place to live a happy joyous life for myself. Maybe other posts will have more in-place stories and happenings I experienced until now.

5 random things i loved during this time?

  • the birds: there are five aviaries to protect tropical birds here; they are stunning, cute, funny, many. Migratory birds from Australia, Russia, enjoy the warm weather for few months here and we go birdwatching.
  • the local food: there is lots to learn and copy about because the creativity in this field is just immense and unlimited. I steam much more than before for example and got used to hot soups and the use of dry herbs, learn some of their benefits, learn more things about connection between body and Nature in general.
  • the tropical weather: I didnt end up to collect some wool clothes that the warm weather is already kicking outside the balcony. By tendence my body cells worship the moon but they are taking positive advantages to understand the work of the sun too, unavoidably.
  • the delicate people’s heart: their heart is my heart air. I cant imagine my life without that prominent chinese loving touch into it!
  • the background urban noise: i live more in the countryside so i can appreciate, distinguish and laught at all the different sounds and noises dowtown: the people’s yelling, the music playing aloud, the cars and tractors, the traffic light tic tic tic, the train running and stopping on the rails, the bicycles in the traffic jam…

During these years I ve had the opportunity to travel mainland China, to see different cities and villages in the north, in the east and west side of the country. Maybe in the future i could live somewhere there too. China is an awsome place to be, especially nowadays with all these political turmoils going on in various corners of this planet. I feel a certain pleasant degree of safety here. I think it s a blessing not to underestimate. These politicians are really like magicians and they may work anything under that colorful hanky but again, those fundamentals and the inner freedom we are allowed to access today is somethng extremely valuable and reliable. I do treasure this spirituality and this connection to the essence of everything here. I trust it completely.

Butterflies

It s my favourite insect, they are beautiful and elegant and royal. Few weeks ago amidst the crazy traffic jam in downton HK while waiting at the traffic light what i see? A woderful, not small at all, black with an orange ribbon butterfliy silently posing thru the hair of a girl in front of me! Just like an authentic hairclip! After few seconds when we all started crossing the street the butterfly flew away. HK, i read it  s the most butterflies-populated  area (considering size an density) in the world. The tropical climate is loved by them and we meet theese beauties really everywhere like also the other one, yellow and black striped which was staring at our window on a 66th floor flat few years go.

Narrow minded character of metropolitan big cities

A very functional & natural way how huge cities work! Big metropolis are always depicted  as intercultural areas where the most open minded brains from different cultures come and join to lift the standards of the city up. At all kinds of level: creative, educational, urban…Hundreds of thousands of projects from all sides are regularly thrown into the big melting pot for being cooked and then digested not only by the resident population but also and especially to inspire who live not in the city. Sometimes i read blogs of people who come to Hong Kong for work only or for holidays and  project an image of freedom and amazing inspiration about the city. A superficial image or better half image. The counterpart is told above in the title. Bliss of the balance. Extreme openness must be in harmony with extreme closure. Very cool.

There will be the most narrow minded people in a highly populated city. It s part of her beauty and it s totally part of her gwrowth. You will be amazed. You need to grasp both parts and make them hugging each other 😉

The cooling sewing

Wel not too cooling because in the wetness breeze blowing in tru the balcony one can only sweat in front of her sewing machine. But the results are paying off spreading motivation for new projects and colors around the house.

This was a perfect gift for teh young daughter of a friend. They recenty moved to HK  so i wanted to sprinkle some Chinese dust on them with this  traditional pattern on intense green fabric. The model was inspired by youtube, it s very simple to make an geat for somebody who do not know how to use a sewing machine yet but wants to make it work anyway.

Egofish

I presume you all know where ego is located in the brain. In case you have no idea about brain deepest anatomy and functions you are still on time for that. It is very easy to understand & useful to know. Here is a species of fish with a big ego which made me laugh a lot. Besids the fact that it seem to have been tatooed Chinese characters with black ink on the body too!

15 reasons why it s good to know own Mr Ego.

  1. because it gives a tremendous opportunity to laugh about your self and have lots of fun with your personal nuts!
  2. because it helps you understanding the real purpose behind your actions, dreams, goals…
  3. because it clarifies for you the purposes of other people ideas in your circle or groups regarding activities, projects ecc. you are involved.
  4. because it gives you the last chance to face your ultimate stupidity.
  5. because it gives you the last chance to understand the meaning of your feelings.
  6. because it gives you the golden chance to distnguish between ego and self confidence, which are two very different aspects of personality.
  7. because it helps to prevent general painful troubles with others.
  8. because it will give you a vision on a large scale of  how things move in the community you belong to.
  9. because it will help you to connect with other people who know their Mr Ego too (they are special and sometimes rare)
  10. because it feels like an amazing satisfiction with no other comparison to silent the ego thoughts.
  11. because an egoless life is much smoother and neater than an egoful life.
  12. because it gives you clarity and dynamism of thinking.
  13. because it makes you different and precious in every place you go.
  14. because it will build like a shield of protection around your personality and space of action.
  15. because it will move your attention on new things, very smart.

Six common ways (or conditioning) how couples manage the union

In its own way each couple is different. A man and a woman living together have something that other couples do not have. That something is quite impossible to identify and it can be the result of a mix of features or one single vision that works like a glue between the two personalities. There is also the fact that each couple is like one living body constantly evolving and constantly changing… or degenerating too, it depends. I am always intrigued by couple relationship dynamics first of all from mine itself and then also from outside, friends, relatives…. Infact some couples can be used as reference or models. Okey, this is my brief musing of the day. On a  most evident point of view there is that “cool” conditioning which is there to create the condition for the couple to be together. See few of them:

  1. interests, hobby: trendy! experiencing the emotion of travelling often to explore new places and cultures together. Or to go skiing on weekends. Or to party alooot. When we cultivate  a passion in common we have this oneness feeling, like we are one with the partner. Sharing interests is a key for our companionship, otherwise we would feel like two strangers.
  2. church activities: getting really popular these ones! weekly meeting for fellowships and meetings with our friends: we cannot live without it because this is what gives us the strenght and the nourishment  to grow together, appreciate life for every little thing, accept the challenges and what life has to offer.
  3. life philosophy: we dont really know what is uniting us but we guess it’s the perspective and the way we look at every day in our life; the concern we have for each other and the nature. yes! we feel very much connected with the nature, we feel comfortable together and we tink at the same way on lots  and lots and lots of topics and issues.
  4. work: we are working in the same field since long, we are the best partners and complement each other perfectly for the role. So we are very happy to be also merried because there is a special understanding which comes from our common experiences, we are able to anticipate the other’s thoughts and ideas, flowing with his/her creativity at the same time, it’s really thrilling, it gives lots of energy!
  5. tradition and family: our parents got  married in the same style, this is very typical in our countryand works for the betterment of the family. We share the same system of belief and grew up with it, this is the base we stand on: our families are now related and very happy for us, they gave the blessing for a fulfilled merried life, nothing is more important.
  6. culture and language: we come from the same country, a similar lifestyle, similar friends; we speak the same language at all levels; it’s great we can discuss stuff, ideas, make plans; it works smooth cause we have the same mind form, guess we have absorbed it during all this time until we met; culture is the key, we have lots to share, a full background which gives that feeling of strenght and unity.

China’s Po Po

Po Po is the Grandmother affectionately called just like my Nonna (in italian) or my Babica (in croatian) in Europe. Po Po here in HK i dont have her actually but i kind of meet them everywhere when crossing the street.

There is a restaurant chain here called Shanghai Po Po, we love their food and their huge childish frames decorations on the walls. I am writing about China PoPo over a phone call to my mom where she was telling about seeing a documentary on Himalaya: up up in the Moutains strong women are lowered deep down into natural wells to fill buckets with pure rose salt; which is lately collected and refined by the men of the village. The entire process is hand made and these women just awsomely carry on such a heavy body work. In China women compromise themselves at the same way  although we have no pink salt. Women work and worked very hard until consuming their mind and their whole life, and that’s their result when you cross that street:

technical lifestyle

It’s becoming a technical world especially for those people who want to lead a realized lifestyle founded on living and sustainable awareness. The vibrant lifestyle that gives continuous try to real techniques of improvement. There is a tecnique for everything today, there are subtle ways, there are gross ways. You wish to be radiant: there is a precise tecnique for that. You wish to have all the money you deserve: there is a precise tecnique for that too. You wish peace and fun all the times: there is a tecnique to achieve both even together. You name your wish, you name the quality and the tecnique is there to serve you.

Important is to learn the tecnique, better the wide range of tecniques at all different levels of personality and understanding. Some people value profound humility to the point that they learn how to make it blossom thru their glorious character. Other people do not bother about humility for example and they just act to be humble, they miserably fail on this tecnique and on teh quality as immediate consequence, looking very comic to the eyes of whom is caring much for self realization. Wherever functional and simple tecniques are missing, there will be weird fun, chaos and degeneration along the years. It has been tested already.

A good lifestyle must be grounded in a well certified and organic array of tecniques which have been largely explained and proved by authorized personalities. Authorized by their life and life vision especially. How much do you like applying tecniques to estabilish a prosperous lifestyle? Which kind of tecniques do you use? Are you realized?

Magic ring over Moscow

We spent our last week with a friends couple coming from Moscow. They are in love with Hong Kong and it is already the fourth time we see them. Lots of laughs, shopping, fooding, sightseeing. They are surprised about the fact that Hong Kong is not commercialized enough in Russia because it can be the ideal vacation to break out of the stress and austerity of the capital. And myself i always think there is no other place more stressful than HK!! But Moscow must be as magic as HK anyway… Just see what you can see on an ordinary day to work:

Living abroad is an educational process

Educational process which can be serious or light depending on the time. Indeed living abroad is certainly not a joke but a processas long as your stay in that place. People talk alot about differences and try many different ways to frame them and give them a real meaning which would be sustainable for the ongoing race towards peace and harmony.

There are cultures offering a peculiar background in their history nd development which can enrich a massive educational process of this type. They are characterized by strong conditionings and ideas which with no doubt help people to find better levels of understanding for great tansformation.

During this ongoing process along the way people realize alot of stuff and refine some valuable tools in their own self .

Come with me for a stroll in SOHO late at night

Tonight we had our usual dancing class in Soho, in a new stage center of a very exclusive and stylish club house. This part of the city is a real meltin pot of modern and old, trendy and old fashioned, hills and plane roads, plenty of narrow streets which i had to cross before reaching the MTR=underground train on the main street “at the feet of the mount”.

this one was the starting point, the gallery of Mr. Tagore the grandson of the most legendary and auspicious Nobel of India. Work in progress inside, it was close and they are installing a new exhibition.

Soho is always busy and crowded and at night time it represents the drink/chat place for many people workin and living in the dowtown. However some streets are very quite and almost deserted with just one shop still shining.

Somebody is still working on the street….and somebody is still shopping at almost midnite (…i got a beautiful “casacca” with geometrical designs). one of the best fun for me is bargaining in Chinese with these local folks: sometimes running into a sweet uncle or  a screamy auntie, sometimes into a young girl. i always wish that these people will go to the foundation of the economy in their own country and at the most important meaning for exchanging goods.

Late at night you can meet the usual  auntie who cleans up all the road of its cartoons, pack and pile them up diligently and carry them to some receptacle-place. Or simply she cleanse the city of the daily wasted plastic bags. She is the one who knows Mother earth problems and tribulations better than anybody else and better than any philosopher and wiseman.

cinqb

Finally you can also get a floreal taxi to the MTR if you dont want to walk anymore. The driver can be a close relative of the auntie above. He very possibly enjoys drinking and smoking with his friends if not on due and very possibly does care very little in his central nervous sytem about the cycles and messages of Mother earth. But he knows how to drive well in the city jungle and will bring you to destination.

Cities, sense of belongings, ashram lifestyle, cultures: the way they fit

We are definitely getting closer now and do not need to sit down together for a dinner to feel this closeness. It is just happening, some people may still not be aware but this beautiful & colorful train is spinning to such a velocity where even the stars  are collaborating. We are now able to feel the universe with all its problems and all its wonders! One of the most excellent training  to this ability was certainly given by Mahatma Gandhi and the creation of the Sevagram Ashram during his lifetime. “People, he felt, should not tolerate each other and their differences, but learn to respect, understand, accept and appreciate each other.” – writes Arun Gandhi grandson.

It is exactly what it is in town for example where people are no more tolerating each other because they now want to connect and embibe the goodness of other cultures: it is a different process which can transform oneself into a new personality sometimes very different from before.

Just like a heart beat

How is your heart beat? Do you check on it? Not medically but for real. i found out that my heart beat is regular and especially during two moments of the day/week it goes towards the extreme without even touching them.  During sitting time of meditation it slows down a lot, during a dance performance it does increase.

Traditional Chinese doctors suggest not to take to any hyper dynamic activity after 50 years of age. When we get old we should keep our heart beat on the same regular tune as much as possible. Nowaday there is a big trend to go jogging, running ~ there are big financial companies here in town which promote marathons to push up the heart beat of their employees and throw them in stressful conditions with the pretest of charity events or enhancing team spirit. But a completely conscious person will not listen to them and have great care of his heart beat.

HK Bulletin: people are scared here

petals

Here I am again reporting first hand experience from one of the most crowdie and culturally varied places in the world, the Asian center for affair and finance, where the professionals keeps monitoring worldwide economical situation and the standard man/woman stays at office until eight or nine every day. I live in a local neighborhood close to the northwestern boarder with the mainland and every evening I see streams of children in kurtas and punjabis from Arabia or India in the street; they live here with their family and go to local schools too; their mothers buying potatoes and greens at the market when I am also there. Simply colorful and so beautiful.

Now it will begin a reportage from last Thursday and Friday: in a period of time of 48 hours a scary universe discloses to my eyes in one block! I just want to share it with you; there is even some comic side in it! In no order: 1. I go for throwing the strawberries leaves in a basket placed behind the girl who is sitted at the reception in the dance studio: she literally jumps off the chair for two times thinking that some kind of monster maybe is moving towards the basket. 2. Here it follows the scary adventure as it has been told by a friend who is looking for an Indian shop at the upper floor of one of the most ethnic and multicultural mansion in Hong Kong downtown: “ I see all these black men an I am with the direction written on a paper. They are kind and they really want to help me, but I am too scared and I am running in the building with them following me saying: don’t run, we just want to tell you where the place is”. I know this mansion very well being situated not far from my workplace: it is probably the only corner in the all city where you can literally spot bunches of faces from everywhere. It sounds so exciting, here I know the Indian uncle upstairs, he fixed my ghagra for an extremely cheap price, I come here alone to buy Coconut oil, bangles and Bollywood movies: some shoppers are really familiar to me. Moreover I use to do money exchange here when I need non Chinese currencies; they have some of the best conversions, even better than at the bank sometimes.

3. While walking towards the train in the metro suddenly somebody gently hugs me half from the back, I just turn my face to see and smile: it’s the same friend I met in the morning and she’s going: aren’t you scared? 4. At night I am making tea in the kitchen of the Yoga ashram of the city and a lady comes in “wow how do you do that? I could not be able to do it, and you know why, because I am really scared to turn on the fire”.

Now when Friday night arrives and I have been the receptacle of all these “scared of” testimonials I feel really shocked. In the kitchen I was just turning on the fire of the stove with an electrical gas lighter, a skill which requires a simple coordination of both your hands.

It’s true that the news are simply disgusting, everybody is saying so; the economy collapsed. Few weeks ago a colleague visited my desk for asking something about a product or a deadline but it was only an excuse to chat and soften+discharge his scary feelings about the fact that another company like ours had just fired more than 50 people the same day.

rete1

Do you know the joke from a 4 years old who is praying: And forgive us our trash baskets as we forgive those who put trash in our baskets.”?

Bombs are exploding in our cities, children are being assaulted and violated, families being displaced and attacked…there is so much trash accumulated in all our baskets and so many others who attempt to make it worst. But this is not a good reason to live our days with the stable feeling of “being afraid of this and that”. I mean we are divine. The divinity within us has to take full control so that all these stupid ideas are automatically blown away.
